The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress winner of the 2019 presidential election.

He defeated his runner-up Atiku Abubakar of the PDP by 15.191.847 votes to 11.262. 978.

Buhari’ opponents claim he did not do enough to fight corruption, insecurity and strengthen the economy during his first term of office.

His main challenger Atiku Abubakar, in the build up to the elections, made pledges basically to lift millions of people out of poverty.

These notwithstanding, the majority of Nigerians could bet on the former military commander probably because of past corruption allegations attributed to the PDP candidate.

Der 2019 elections in Nigeria were postponed for a week and the voting exercise was marked by long hours of delay and deadly violence that probably kept some voters away from the polls.

At the proclamation of the results, Buhari supporters began celebrations outside the party headquarters in Abuja.
